OUT with the old IN with the new!

With each "new" season it's a great time to revive and restock our makeup bags. It's also a great time to hit the makeup counters to stock up on fall colors to compliment our fall wardrobe. Now is the time to remove and toss cracked makeup that you've been secretly saving & using, toss expired mascara that's half way dried out and do away with "summer" foundation fit for a tan.

Some of your favorites stores have the cutest makeup bags so you can start fresh like the "new" season for less than $10. This is one sure way to embrace a "new" season. Happy FALL!

Fall 2010 MakeUP Trends

I am loving the Fall inspired makeup trends! This season it's all centered around the royal color PURPLE. That's one great reason to celebrate because there are so many different hues of purple, and they range from cool to warm tones so everybody can rock purple and wear it well. Some other popular trends this season vary from frosty metallic, bright shimmers to bold matte jewel tones to intense smoky eyes using blacks, grays and deep Burgundy.

I'm loving this "RED LIP" vibe that's sweeping from coast to coast. There's nothing like experimenting and discovering the perfect red lipstick to match your skintone. There is sure to be one waiting patiently to be discovered by you. When you rock a red lip you have to wear it with confidence and let your lips be the main focus on your face, so minimize your other features to maximize this "BOLD" red lip. Also, red lipsticks with blue undertones makes your lips look whiter and brighter which is another reason we should indulge ourselves and wear red.

One of my favorite things to do is get a weekly manicure. I like to have fun and rock bold colors on my nails so I'm super excited to see all the purples and burgandy colors make it into some of my favorite cosmetic lines.

Jennifer Hudson's Gospel B-Day Celebration

When I heard details about Jenn's event I got a vision of how awesome this night would be. She also warned me to bring some tissue because there was not one dry eye in rehearsals so I made sure to comply. From Shirley Murdock, Walt Whitman & The Soul Children, Ricky Dillard & New G, Kelly Price, The Nichol Sisters were just some of the amazing singers that took the stage and rounding out the night was a performance by Jennifer Hudson herself. The atmosphere was ready and I'm certain everybody left feeling refreshed & restored in some way.

Jenn had two amazing purple dresses and since she was wearing her favorite color I decided to really play up her eyes with purples and Burgundy hues. I kept her overall pretty natural because there were no cameras and I wanted her to feel comfortable yet chic all at the same time. Her reaction to her "look" was priceless as she had not seen herself in glam makeup since before filming in Africa for 4 months. I was so happy to just be apart of the audience because I definitely left feel inspired! Here's a few pictures....

Beautiful Bride, Beautiful Destination & Beautiful Makeup =Beautiful Results

This summer has been a blast! Had the distinct pleasure of traveling to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic to beautify one my special clients. When the Bride-to-Be called me to announce her engagement, I just knew this would be a night not soon forgotten. Every detail of her special day was carefully thought out even to the smallest details. Rebecca allowed me to create the perfect "beach wedding" glow.

I wanted her skin to glow with the sun, her eyes to pop under the veil and her cheeks lightly carved to enhance her beautiful smile. After seeing Rebecca walk down the white sandy beaches to meet her groom all I could do was smile because my mission was accomplished.  Her hair was amazing and her dress was trimmed with delicate lace and the end results were simplicity.

The reception was 2nd to none, the food was superb and they had a DJ from back in the states make the perfect reception CD, so we danced until our heels got tired.  O what a night:) Here's a few pictures of the Wedding and Rebecca's bachelorate party. Enjoy!

Beauty Expert

Being a Makeup Artist has exposed me to some great opportunities and one of them being a Beauty Expert. I got a call from Daily Buzz TV located in Orlando, Florida to give advice on Inexpensive ways to beat the heat. I was elated to visit the studio and be apart of the Daily Buzz, and not to mention they reach 162 tv stations throughout the country. I had so many ways but of course with live TV you only have a few minutes to get your tips across so I had to downsize a bit. Some of my tips were using Johnson's Baby Oil Gel to hydrate the skin and it also gives your skin and extra glow.

I also recommended Johnson's Baby Powder for the busy days when your out running errands and anticipate perspiring, just dab a bit under your arms to feel cool, refreshed and smelling great. The baby powder is also great for removing sand from your legs and feet after a day at the beach. Two other products I insist every Woman should have are blotting tissues and a blot powder to control excessive oils to the skin and keep you looking freshed faced! Here's some behind the scenes pics! Enjoy

Bobby V's Album Packaging

I had the opportunity of working with Bobby Valentino on his album packaging for his highly anticipated 5th CD. The location was a nice and cozy studio in BROOKLYN with the oh so talented Photographer Clay Patrick McBride, who by the way really inspired me in so many ways! We actually shot in a few different locations that were pretty cool I might ad. We had so much fun on this photoshoot Bobby V had me in stitches laughing the entire time.

His new CD is titled, "Fly on the Wall", and I got a chance to hear it 1st and it's giving you everything he's known for. Not only is Bobby a great singer, he's expanding his philanthropic efforts via his foundation, "The Bobby V Foundation", which focuses on the value of higher education. GO Bobby..keep making a difference! Check out some of the behind the scenes pictures and the new CD cover!

After rehearsal we had a little free time to I took to my twitter page for entertainment:) The weather was in NYC was amazing and so was Maxwell's mini concert. Maxwell as well as the band had tons of energy and it was reflected in the crowd. One of his fans traveled all the way from Chicago...like me to be amongst the crowd. Look closely and you might find me blotting off some (RED) lipstick that one of Maxwell's fans used to kiss him with!! Another great moment.....and another job well done!

Johnson & Johnson Advertorial

Words cannot express how I felt when I saw my Johnson & Johnson Beauty Advertorial featured in ESSENCE Magazine. I'm featured giving out great skincare tips using some of my favorite products such as Johnson's Baby Oil Gel.

I've gotten so many surprise calls from people just thumbing through the magazine only to see a familiar face....such a good feeling. I want to thank everyone for all of the love and support you show me on my journey.

Beauty Segment

Last month I was ecstatic about doing another beauty segment this time it aired on WGN. I talked about Summer Makeup Trends and how we as women no matter the ethnicity, can wear some of the same colors by using different makeup techniques.

I demonstrated these techniques on a Black, Caucasian, Latina and Asian Model. Since the color Purple is hot this season, I used a purple eyeshadow as a liner on each of the models and talked about how I applied it differently on each model to bring out their eyes best. It was a really great segment...now I'm looking forward to the NEXT!

"We Are The World"

Walking into the courtyard we were so excited to see so many singers show up for the remake of "We Are The World", in support of Haitian Earthquake relief. Everybody mingled and caught up with each other until this gentleman announced all the celebrities were needed inside the building.

So there were Managers, Publicists, Friends, etc..packed outside with our eyes locked to the big screen tv's. They served up food and put out chairs and brought out heated lamps as they knew we would all be there for awhile. The energy in the building brought goose bumps down my spine as they all sang in unison that beautiful song we all know and love.

Among the voices were Jennifer Hudson, Pink, Barbara Streisand, Justin Bieber, Mary Mary, Miley Cyrus and countless others. I felt Blessed to be watching History in the making.

NAACP Awards

What a great feeling it was to be present backstage at the 41st Annual NAACP Awards Ceremony. The Red Carpet was electric and filled with every familiar face imagineable. I was so happy as I watched from backstage as they announced "Album of the Year" goes to MAXWELL!! I let out a big roar followed by an applause as if I was inside the theatre. As we left we all had smiles on our faces. And btw...that award was so deserving so kudos to Maxwell. Here's a picture which showed just how happy & proud he was.

J&J & ESSENCE Magazine Panelist

I was so elated to be approached by the Johnson & Johnson Brand to be a "Spokesperson" for a brand that's been apart of my household for such a long time. This was an easy, breezy adventure for me. So Johnson & Johnson along with ESSENCE Magazine put together some events called, "What's your beauty secret" in D.C., and NYC and guess who was to take part as a panelist..ME!

This was such an honor to be amongst the best in the beauty industry. These events very filled with beauty bloggers and everyday women who all happened to be FAB! They offered consultations by Me, Chair Massages, Manicures, Pedicures and they had some great J&J giveaways and good food, and I can't forget the D.J. who set the tone for the afternoon. We all left informed and equipped to tackle our skincare and makeup issues. I received alot of great feedback from women who attended the event so I was a happy camper! Mikki Taylor was the commentator and she did it oh so eloquently as only she can.

It felt great introducing some of my favorite Johnson & Johnson products tips such as the Baby Oil Gel...right after you step out of the shower for soft, subtle, hydrated skin. Here's some pictures from the events.

TIA'S MASCARA TIPS

Start off by curling your lashes with my fave lash curler by Tarte (as shown on a previous post). This eye lash curler is so soft and gentle which allows you to get the perfect pain free curl. The other great benefit in curling your lashes 1st it really "opens" your eyes and makes them appear larger and brighter.

Next apply your 1st coat of mascara and remember if the wand has excess mascara on it take a tissue and gently remove excess product then proceed at the base of your lashes. Starting at the base will give you more definition which makes your lashes appear thicker and gives the illusion of longer lashes.

Another great tip to make the lashes stand out is to blink onto the brush a couple of times to give the ends an extra coat.

For extra drama add a lash primer and a second coat of mascara.

Also love colored mascaras for a different look. I wore a green mascara yesterday by Dr. Haushcha and I loved the look. Blue mascara just on the very tips of your lashes opens and brightens the eyes. Be daring and give it a try!

For lower lashes I love Maybeline's Lash Discovery because it has the cutest, smallest brush ever and it gives alot of definition to the lashes for a more dramatic look.

*Mascara's shelf life is 3 months however, if you ever smell and odor or the formula starts to dry...PLEASE DISREGARD!

My Fave eye make-up remover is by OLAY Regenerist which has an anti-wrinkle treatment to help smooth and hydrate to regenerate skin's appearance around the eyes.

*MUA Tip for cleaning spoolies (disposable mascara wands) soak wands in Olay's eye makeup remover then spray with alcohol for xtra sanitation.

*For eyeglass wearers, please let your lashes dry before you put on your glasses.

MY FIVE FAVORITE MASCARA'S:

DIORSHOW
Tarte's Lights, Camera, Action
Lancome Fatale
Yves St Laurent Volume Effet
L'Oreal Paris Telescopic

So I had a speaking engagement this past weekend for "It's Not Enough to Dream" Woman's Seminar, and I must say, It was amazing. As I was preparing my 45 minute speech, I became overwhelmed by emotion as I looked over the heights that God has taken me to in this short amount of time.

I was so grateful for the opportunity to share, inspire and encourage these business Woman on their paths. I commend Bridgette and Andrienne for providing the platform for Women to come together to network and build each other up.

It felt so good releasing and sharing where hard work and determination can lead you too. And I got a chance to meet some of my twitter fam!

WINTERIZE YOUR SKIN

Winters can be brutal for the skin so it's very important to take care of your skin to make sure it's moisturized, hydrated and protected. Remember no matter where you're located, the weather is constantly changing and it's important to treat the skin well year round! With that being said I have compiled a list of some products to help you "winterize" you.

*If there's ever a season that causes dry, chapped lips it's the wintertime so here's a couple of my fav lip balms: Kiehl's Lip Balm love it because one application goes along way. And another fav of mine is Burt's Bees lip balm which you can pick up at your local drug store. I would advise buying a few and stashing them in your purse, at work, and in your car for emergencies!

*I have two recommendations for the body. One is Carol's Daughter Souffle Delights which is a light and fluffy cream that INTENSELY moisturizers your hands and body and a little goes a long way..TRUST! Some of the ingredients include Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter, Sweet Almond Oil and Jojoba oil..this is a STAPLE in my kit and if you saw my work on the cover and pages of December's ESSENCE Magazine you'll see how nicely this worked on Marjorie Harvey's skin. The other recommendation is Vaseline Cocoa Butter deep conditioning lotion which moisturizes and keep skin soft ALL day long.

*I also recommend using a eye cream in the winter because remember the skin is the thinnest around the eye area so it's delicate. Try NARS skin nourishing eye cream which nourishes and revitalizes the eye area.

*I'm loving OLAY Body thermal pedicure foot treatment because it gives amazing results instantly and works great between pedicures. Let me warn you it's self-heating so if you start feeling warm remember I told you so! It also exfoliates for soft, smooth and soothed feet. Some of the ingredients are Bora Bora sand, pumice, shea butter and micro-crystals.

*So after you treat your feet then proceed with LAMISILK Intensive Foot Therapy Hydrate daily cream. This stuff rocks so happy my cousin put me to this! This cream sooths dry and rough skin like nobody's business!

*Now for the best part..facial moisturizer! I have so many recommendations for facial moisturizers so I'll share two for now. One is Amala Hydrating face cream which quenches dry, dull skin to the fullest! Some of the ingredients are Jasmine, Avocado & Macadamia Nut which restores elasticity and protects skin from dehydration...yummy! Also Carol's Daugther has a face cream that is great for extremely dry, blotchy skin..and you only need a tiny bit!

Happy shopping and please don't forget your hair care needs as the weather affects the scalp and hair folicles as well!

Wanna be a makeup artist....some helpful advice!

Do as many "test" photo shoots as possible, practice on your friends, family...and anyone you can hold down!

Touch every skin tone and skin type you can..so you don't limit your ability.
Learn the basics- fundamentals are the building blocks to a great career. Colour theory, contouring, skin science and trends.

Say YES to as much work as you can...don't forget to look at every situation as an opportunity for growth!

Stay inspired by looking at magazines, movies, paintings basically anything visual that makes me want to get out a makeup brush and experiment.
Be patient because Rome wasn't built in a day.

Master the technique of blending as it's the key to a flawless application!
Humility because there are so many highs and lows in this industry, and there is always something to learn..stay open for feedback.

Work for the EXPERIENCE and not for the money when your first starting out! The money will come later when you have the experience and skills to back it up.
I think you need to be passionate about makeup, provide superior service and network, network and then network some more!

Take as many makeup classes as you can and also working behind the makeup counter is always a plus.
