Ask Tia Tuesday

This weeks Ask Tia Tuesday question is from Brittany M. Brittany asks:

I love playing in makeup! I've had my cheap brushes for a while and I think I'm ready to invest in some expensive ones so my makeup will look flawless like JHUD's.  Is there a particular  brand that you suggest I purchase?

Hi Brittany! Thanks for your question! Makeup brushes are a great investment, but you don't necessarily have to purchase the most "expensive" set or brand. I use brushes from different brands such as MAC, Sonia Kashuk and even some ELF Cosmetics brushes. Contrary to popular belief, creating a flawless face is not a direct result of using an expensive makeup brush. The key to a flawless face is more about your technique.

Ask Tia Tuesday

Today's Ask Tia Tuesday question is from Brandise. Brandise asks:

What is the best way to take your make up from day to evening?

Thanks so much for your makeup question! Here's some quick ways to punch up your look from daytime to nighttime glam! First, you always want to carry makeup wipes to clean up any smudges so you can even out your skin tone with pressed powder or a blot powder to tone down oily skin. Next, I would add some eyelashes to your outer lashes to create flirty lashes. Don't forget to groom your eyebrows and add clear brow set to frame your face and send a message of powder. I would then add a punch of color to your lips to finish off your nighttime look.

Today's question is from Maria S. Maria asks:

What's the best tip for applying eyeliner on the top eyelids? And what type is the best to use? I always try and it looks a mess! Jennifer Hudson's eyeliner always looks fab! Please help!

Thanks for the question Maria! I would say one of the tricks to applying liquid/gel liner to your eyes is a steady hand and practice. My favorite product to use when creating Jennifer Hudson's cat eyes is Bobbi Brown's cream gel liner in Black Ink. I absolutely love this product because it doesn't dry quickly which gives you time to perfect your liner. Try using an angle brush to give you control and the perfect line.

Ask Tia Tuesday

Today’s question is from Connie C. Connie asks:

Hi Tia! I am on the hunt for a great mascara, but I can’t seem to find one that is dark enough. I want something that is REALLY black. Any suggestions?

Hi Connie! Thanks for your question! One of my favorite mascaras is DiorShow Blackout. It’s one of the absolute blackest black mascaras on the market. It also lengthens the lashes and curls them perfectly which really defines the eye.

Ask Tia Tuesday

Today's Ask Tia Tuesday is from Quanna S. Quana asks:

Hello Tia,
My question is, what is the best type of facial scrub I can use. My face has been very dry lately and I'm pretty sure my pores are clogged. I don't wear makeup very often. I've tried a few different soaps, cleansers and lotions, but none have worked so far. What can I do to get my face soft and smooth again?

Hi Quanna! Although, I am not an Esthetician I would be more than happy to give you some advice to hopefully get you some better results. I would first recommend drinking more H2O to keep the skin hydrated. You mentioned the need for a facial scrub and I have the perfect one for you it's by Aveeno, which is an amazing scrub that's gentle and non-abrasive to the skin. Definitely make sure to moisturize your skin twice a day to keep your skin hydrated. Since you mentioned clogged pores, I would look into getting a skin analysis at a spa so you can get specialty treatment. Hope my bit of advice helps!

Ask Tia Tuesday

Today’s question from is Brandi S. Brandi asks:

Do you prefer to use lash strips or individuals?

Personally, I prefer to use the strip of lashes vs. individuals because it's a quick way to punch up your look and bring a bit of drama to your look. Often times when I'm working with a client, there are tight time restraints so the strip of lashes come in handy because they are quick and easy to apply. I also love that you can tailor your lashes to the look your trying to achieve for the day. Another benefit to using the strips lashes is that they are reusable as long as the shape is still there. I would also advise removing the old adhesive glue before re-applying your lashes. My absolute favorite eyelashes are available online www.smokeandmirrorsbeauty.com.
While using individual lashes isn’t my first choice, they can be a great option if you are looking to wear the lashes for a longer period of time. Its all about your lifestyle and what works best for you.

Ask Tia Tuesday

Today’s question is from Paula M. Paula asks:

I'm a working mom with limited time in the morning. What do you suggest as a makeup routine that will leave me looking great, but that I can get done in my very sparse morning minutes?

I can definitely attest to wanting to look cute & polished with limited time restraints. Start off by prepping your canvas with moisturizer to hydrate the skin and help foundation glide on with ease. If you have troubled spots on your face, I would dab a concealer closer to your skin tone for a flawless look. Next, apply your powder foundation with a large fluffy brush to give you an airbrushed look. This next product I believe every Woman should own and wear is mascara as its a simple process with dramatic results. Building on two coats of mascara really opens your eyes and gives great definition. Lightly dust some bronzer on your cheeks to bring life to your face and it also adds a pop of color. Lastly, add some tinted lip conditioner or lipgloss to your lips to finish off your look.

Ask Tia Tuesday

This Tuesday's Ask Tia question comes from Treneshia F. Treneshia says:

"I have a problem with black marks, dry areas, and "blah" facial skin! What products can I use to clear & brighten my skin? Or would microdermabrasion work as well?"

There could be a number of reasons why you are experiencing dry skin. I would highly suggest keeping your skin thoroughly hydrated by drinking more H2O and by incorporating a moisturizer twice a day. Let me also suggest using a facial scrub once a week to brighten, clarify and to remove dull, dry skin to reveal a more lustrous silky smooth texture. I'm a huge advocate for microdermabrasion however, I only get the treatment once a year. Please do your research and contact a skincare specialist with all of your questions/concerns before you get microdermabrasion. Ambi also has a great fade cream that can be found at your local drugstore. Wish your skin well!!
