Ask Tia Tuesday
This weeks Ask Tia Tuesday question is from Genell. Genell asks:
I was wondering what would your advice be to an aspiring MUA for breaking into the field other than education and practice?
Hi Genell! Here are some suggestions to hopefully point you in the right direction:
• Write down your goals, study and know the area of your expertise so you can have a direct target.
• Make yourself visible via your website, social networking sites, craigslist, model mayhem etc..
• Network with photographers, hairstylist and fashion stylist to let them know you’re available for work.
• Always follow-up after meeting industry people while your name is still fresh in their minds.
• Say YES to as much work as you can...don't forget to look at every situation as an opportunity for growth.
• Stay inspired by looking at magazines, movies, paintings basically anything visual that makes you want to get out a makeup brush and experiment.
Thanks for your question! You can also find more tips in my article for Black Enterprise entitled “Jump Starting A Career As A Makeup Artist”. I Hope that helps!
If you have a makeup question you’d like answered, send it to asktiatuesday@gmail.com and it might be chosen for an upcoming post!
